I Quit My Job to Write Full-Time

I am not unlike many people out in the world today. I have a family and dreams. I quit my job in surgery to stay home with my incredible children so that I could watch them grow. Like so many working parents out there I had daily regrets and guilt about being away from them all day long. I hated catching the 'tail-end' of everyone's day. I wanted to be there and to be part of what was going on with them. I hated missing their smiles, their giggles and wanted the opportunity to watch them grow and learn everyday.

The hard part was figuring out how to do that without moving us out onto the street. Luckily, my husband has a wonderful job that can keep us afloat. When I first started staying at home I was running a business that I had started a year earlier and had been working 'part-time' on the weekends. It was a home business called Enchanted Tutu. I decided recently that with the New Year upon us, it was time to simply our lives once again. I decided to go back to my original passion of writing. I may not make a ton of money writing, but it is something that I love and it provides the flexibility I need for my family. I figured it was time to sell the other business and start writing full-time at home.

Finding time to write is probably the only struggle I have at the moment. I have two baby boys and an older little girl, whom I homeschool. I juggle the boys' sleep schedule with my daughter's homeschooling schedule and find time to write when everyone is sleeping or otherwise occupied. I also write at night once everyone is in bed. It is kind of fun being able to really 'work' in your pajamas, in your bed even!

I wanted to put my short story out there to give hope to anyone who is thinking of quitting their 'day jobs' to write full-time. With a little bit of hope, faith and good planning it can definitely happen for you. Believe in yourself and you can do anything, that's what they say. Try not to go into anything like this expecting to become rich overnight. If we all had access to goldmines we'd all be rich right! Writing, like anything else, is a lot of work. You have to write a lot and find ways to bring attention to your writing so that someone will take interest in it and invest in it!

We'll see how it goes for me! If you are a new writer or even an old writer please drop me a line anytime. I am here to advocate for anyone who is trying to follow their dreams and need encouragement or just need to hear that someone else went through the SAME thing!
