I Received a Phone Call About John Mellencamp's Free Concert to Support Hillary Clinton in Indianapolis, Hung Up the Phone and Wrote This Article

Want to Attend? Here Are the Details About the May 3 Rally and Performance

Jan Corn
The phone just rang. It was a call from an unlisted or private number so I can't tell you exactly who called me. I'm assuming it was someone from the Clinton campaign, a reasonable assumption based on the information give me. I was told that I could get free tickets to hear John Mellencamp perform at an Indianapolis rally for Hillary Clinton.

Here's the phone number I was given: (317) 917-1430. When I called that number I was given two options. I could either go to downtown Indianapolis and pick up the tickets or use the online option. The online option can be seen here: www.hillaryclinton.com/events/ticketed/20080503Indianapolis/

The Details and address for John Mellencamp free performance in Indianapolis at the Hillary Clinton rally

John Mellencamp will be performing live at White River State Park
801 West Washington Street
Indianapolis In

Date: May 3, 2008
Time: 6:30 pm

How to Attend the Concert

Simple. Call the phone number listed above or go to the website at HillaryClinton.com or use the link above. Fill out the form and submit it. Then show up on May 3 to hear Mellencamp perform in Indianapolis.

People assumed Mellencamp supported Barack Obama. Does Mellencamp support Hillary Clinton because of this free concert?

Surprisingly, according to some political analysts and media coverage, the singer may yet be uncommitted. Because I'm writing this quickly, in order to get information out quickly for those who want to attend the concert or stay up to date on this, I'm not able to do an in-depth analysis of my own. Consider this an informational piece, letting people know of John Mellencamp's free concert, possibly to support Hillary Clinton.

His past behavior has been a bit back and forth. At one point he had endorsed John Edwards for the Democratic nomination, according to latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/04/john-mellencamp.html a Los Angeles Time section in blogs (original writer and source : Rick Pearson, Chicago Tribune).

So is this an open or veiled endorsement of Senator Hillary Clinton? This is not the first time Mellencamp's music has been played at Clinton campaign activities or events. Mellencamp's Small Town and Our Country has been used at other campaign activities.

Stay tuned for updates and announcements. Meanwhile, Indianapolis voters and citizens, take note!

I would have loved to see John Mellencamp. regardless of who he supports. I love his voice.

Please tell me you really did have an AC bumper sticker on the forehead. As soon as you can write an article and incorporate a photo of you with that pic, please let me know. I'm giggling at the idea of that. You'd probably win that AC bumper sticker contest. Now on to this article. Whenever someone offers me something to vote for a person or in support of a person, it makes me uncomfortable. I remember an author sending out an email blast saying whoever voted for him in a poetry contest would get a discount on their books. I kept thinking, "Why wouldn't you want them to vote for you genuinely instead of as a trade-off?" But hey, it might not make a difference. Eminem fans voted for George Bush even though he made "Mosh" before the last presidential election, so maybe the musician doesn't make a difference.

Clearly, he's supporting the Dems, as are many other celebrities. He appears to be hedging his bets as to which one, tho. Anyhoo, I bet its gonna be a great show (saw him in the 80's in Knoxville. He rocked!)

Sounds good! I never answer out of area or unknown calls. Perhaps I should start.

    Great reporting!

Orch - Okay, just look for the AC bumper sticker on my forehead. That ought to stand out a bit, even in the crowd ;)
Maybe I'll just stick it on my t-shirt and then try to get a photo shaking Mellencamp's hand.

jcorn, I looked out yesterday and my mailbox was actually leaning a bit to the side...I need to get the wheelbarrow and unload the thing again;) If I get the yard mowed in time, I might consider the concert. And then my question would be...which exhausted expression? There are probably many:)

  • jcorn5/3/2008

Orchiolum- I know. Has your mailbox been as full of political ads as mine? Are you going to the concert? If so, wave at me. I'll be the one with the exhausted expression :)

The number of comments on your article may be a bit reflective of the intense interest the Democratic candidates are showing in Indiana. If I remember correctly, Indiana is usually the first state to Fall into the Republican column during the presidential elections. Recent polling data suggests the primary race between Clinton and Obama is very close, if not a tie, and I think the Fall race between the Democrat and Replubican nominees may be close as well. I don't think Indiana has seen this level of political excitement in many, many years. Well done jcorn!
