I Remember When

dalifona
I remember when you took me outside to look at the stars
You talked about how small we were in the great scheme of things
You taught me to be humble.

I remember when you pick me up after falling while running
You talked about how life throws you down and you have to get up
You taught me to persevere.

I remember when you believe me and not my teacher
You talked about trust and honesty between us
You taught me to be honorable.

I remember when you smiled at me
You talked about how proud you were of me
You taught me that I was loved.

I remember when I saw you cry
You did not talk
You taught me how to cry.

Today on your birthday let me take you outside to look at the stars,
let me hold you arm to give you support,
let me believe the stories from your youth,
let me smile and tell you how proud I am of you,
let me cry when I say I love you dad.

My dad died 10 years ago this Fall. He was not afraid to let me see him cry. He showed me that God's Church was all of nature, not just the building we called 'the' Church. . . Your poem touched me deeply. Thank you :-)

Thanks Sophie. I miss my family a lot. I am sure you understand how it is to be so far away from your country and family.
