After a long day of working at their concession trailer at the local festival, the family returned to their home. But this night, instead of sleeping in their own rooms, his family decided to camp out on the living room carpet together. His mother was next to him and his father had gone to sleep on the bed nearby. There was a set of stairs that you could see from the living room. They led to the second floor where the bedrooms were located. These stairs passed by a picture window which had no curtains.
As they lay down on the floor, my husband looked over towards the window and the stairs and caught a ghostly image of a man floating up the staircase. It was a man, without a head or legs. He knows that there was no head because he could see directly out the window, there was nothing blocking the window. He could only see the torso of this ghost. He had on a white t-shirt. My husband turned to his mother and they both realized that they had seen something. But he wanted her to tell him what she saw first. "I saw a ghost" she said. She described exactly the same thing he had just seen. A ghostly figure of a man in a white t-shirt, missing his head and legs. They screamed when they realized what they had seen. This scream woke up his father. They told him what they had saw and asked him to go upstairs and investigate. His father grabbed a baseball bat and a flashlight. He didn't find anything upstairs. Later, my husband went upstairs to see if he could find anything. But he saw nothing at all.
A few months later, his father hired a man to paint their house. One day his father heard the man talking to someone. He went to find out who he was talking to since he was supposed to be working. The man was hesitant to tell him who he was talking to . But fearing getting fired he gave in. He said that he was talking to a spirit. This spirit told the painter that he was a man who had hung himself in the basement of the home years ago. The painter said it was this man who he was talking with. The spirit was still living in the house!

wow that is scary! great story. My grandmothers boyfriend was helping her move about 50 years ago down on the mexican border. When he went to move something into the house he saw the naking half of a womans body walking down the hall it was a ghost. He turned right around and said no way and my grandmother never moved into the house.

Very interesting. I have goose bumps. I have to say I never thought of grabbing a baseball bat to hit a ghost with!
Interesting story indeed. I don't get how anyone in that situation(the painter, chatting it up with the ghost) could be calm. It would make more sense to hear him panic instead of just talking.
Great Ghost story...I bet your husband and his Mom will never forget that sight as long as they live.
