I Shed a Tear Tonight

Major Jester

I shed a tear tonight

The search for a long lost friend
Not pursued with adequate diligence
Seemed every attempt met resistance
Said to myself "I'll try again later"
However further tries ended in failure

The search for a long lost friend
Decades before was the last we met
The years slipped by: I did not forget
I longed to share with him once again
For my fond memories still remain

The search for a long lost friend
Finally came a chance to connect
Another means of contact could be checked
Seems a second friend I found
Knew where and how to check around

The search for a long lost friend
A mere week had passed
The email came, rejoice! But alas
No news could have been worse
For my friend's drive home became his curse

My search for a long lost friend is finished
As was his nature my friend steered away
From harming animals and folks in his way
And on that dark stretch of desert road
My dear friend lost his life I was told

I shed a tear tonight

Bummer. I often find missing friends, etc., but recently I finally found my 6th grade teacher who had just very recently died. Also the mother of a friend who had recently died, but whose daughter (my friend) had preceded her in death. Bummer.

Oh, so sorry for you. Sorry for your friend. There's a bumper sticker that says "I don't brake for animals." I'm going to get you one.

Really felt that Major. I know about this...time passes, events intercede and we mean to do so much, then suddenly our chance is gone, regret appears and recriminations flood our senses. Hang tuff Major. Your pal knows you tried and wanted to. Feel the love.

So sorry to hear this, Major. Small comfort, but at least you kept searching.
