I Shouldn't Be Alive

The Day that Change My Life to a New Level

Marylyn

My friend was a beautiful, young and vibrant person who loves adventure, mostly she loved horses. One morning was all she needs for her life to be turned upside down.

She was riding as usual on her favorite black stallion, when all of a sudden the animal just became wild and throws her over to the hard rocky ground.

She woke up unhurt, brushed herself and goes home. That night, she woke up in agony. Calling for ambulance her dad rushed her to the emergency room where she was rushed to the x-rays department immediately.

The doctor explained to the parents that she has a crushed sternum and spine right from neck to the lower back. It was not the news could have wished for their only daughter.

As she went through hours of surgery, they were sure she was not going to make it. The doctor came out finally to say he is finished; however, he had some more bad news. She was paralysed from neck to waist (quadriplegic) she will never use her limbs again.

She went into a coma state for a month, the doctors had given up as she was complicating with infections and septicemia. I prayed day and night that she should become what she was before.

She finally woke up and the worse was over, but she was still paralysed. I went to intensive unit to see her. As she sees me she broke down and cries. She kept on saying I shouldn't be alive. I hugged her and assured her that I will be here for her.

They started her with physical exercise. One day when I came she was lifting her hands and talking clearly. I asked her what happened, she said "I shouldn't be alive but I am, there must be a reason". She was so confident and strong. I knew from then that she was back and she was going to beat this.

Three months after the coma, she was on a bike training her legs, doctors were amassed at the miracle of faith that has helped my friend to survive death. After all those surgeries and poking, if she has given up she would have died.

It's amazing what can happen to us if we have faith. Today my friend is a motivator at one of the local gyms; her pictures are posted on newspapers as a survivor. She goes to gym religiously now with the fear of losing her ability to walk again.
