I Survived Reality TV at It's Best

Dani Truesdale
Reality TV has become a form of our daily TV lives in one way or another. Now, we can enjoy the new spin of the Reality TV phenomenon which is Actuality TV. Our everyday lives can seem ordinary, somewhat boring at times. When an extreme event happens, we are not typically prepared for this unexpected situation. Most of the time, we don't have a whole lot of time to react or respond, so our gut reaction is usually what we rely on and use to either aid us or to help us in the remedy of the situation. Self preservation is a personal and somewhat selfish emotion, but as you will learn from the new show "I Survived", thank goodness, we all possess such selfishness.

The chances of meeting someone who has survived a brutal attack or lived through a horrific natural disaster is something that doesn't happen everyday. However, the new cable TV show, "I Survived", introduces you to every day people, your next door neighbor, who tell their amazing survival stories. This exciting new show is unique because it doesn't dwell on the forensics of the events in the way that a crime show would, nor how the authorities may interpret the events. "I Survived" focuses on the victim, who is telling their story, in their own words about the event that almost took their life.

For instance, Mother Nature and all her glory, can be a very dangerous entity with severe weather, that can come upon us quickly and many times without warning. There are survival stories told by some, who have managed to survive severe snow storms and being trapped in their cars for days. Some stories entail being trapped or lost on snow covered ski slopes and not able to find their way to safety. Other stories are of murderous attempts either by someone they know or by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The stories are not limited to certain categories. These stories are told by the survivors of many different situations in which their lives were in jeopardy by events they had no control over. Their stories are intriguing and eloquently told, with deep heart felt emotions. Although each story is unique, the victims share with us how they were able to reach inside themselves, think rationally and find a way to overcome a situation that could very easily have ended in disaster.

As we watch and listen to these amazing people, tell their heroic stories, we are brought into the survivors lives, by their stories they share. As we listen with unwavering attention as they tell their stories, we sit on the edge of our seats, as their stories come to an end, and we still wonder, did they survive?
