I Should Have Taken a Shower

Steven West
I should have taken a shower
I should have been all refreshed,
I had over an hour
Before I had to get dressed.
But I was just plain lazy
And I left to work unclean,
I know that this sounds crazy
But I'm not trying to sound mean.
I had an important meeting
Scheduled for today,
The CEO was at the seating
And I knew that I would pay.
My hair was flat
My fingernails were dirty,
In silence I sat
Until three-thirty.
The CEO said, "What's that smell in this room?"
I slouched in my chair feeling doom and gloom.
"Jenkins, is that you?" the CEO asked.
I bolted from the meeting in a real flash.
My embarrassment was thorough
I felt in utter defeat,
I wanted to leave this world
But instead made a hasty retreat.
I went home and had a shower
Got cleaned and brushed my hair,
It only took an hour
And I had a few minutes to spare.
I went back to the meeting feeling just grand,
Made a solid impression and shaked the CEO's hand.
