I Think My House is Haunted, Part Deux

Erin Morris
In late November I published a story called I Think My House Is Haunted, which talks about the house I recently moved in to and the events that have occurred that lead me to believe that we have a ghost living with us. My boyfriend and I closed on our house the third week of October, 2007, and since have witnessed many unexplainable occurrences.

My first article reviews all that happened from the time we moved in up until around Thanksgiving, but since then, more has happened that makes me believe now more than ever, that we are sharing our house with a ghost. The ghost resides in our living room. The room is rectangular in shape, and the ghost likes to hang out in the back corner. The corner he lives in (I think it's a he) has two windows and is right near where our television is.

After my Thanksgiving encounter, the ghost laid low for a bit which made my boyfriend believe that we didn't have a ghost. We decided to have a house warming party on the 8th of December and I wanted to have our Christmas tree up before the party. So we went out and bought the tree on the 6th, brought it into the house and put it in the corner of the living room; the ghost's corner. We got the tree up in the stand, and let it sit so that the limbs could fall.

The next night, we strung the lights. Once the lights were on, my boyfriend went down into the basement to get the rest of the decorations. The tree was beautiful! I sat on the couch to admire it, and just for an instant closed my eyes. The next thing I hear is...CRASH! The tree had fallen over to the ground. Now I know that tree stands aren't all that sturdy, that many times you have to anchor the tree to the wall (which we ended up doing) but the way that the tree was shaped, the weight was in the back towards the wall. After stringing the lights we actually leaned the tree slightly to the back, so if it did fall, it would fall backward into the corner, not forward; unless someone or something gave it a little push!

My boyfriend came up with this crazy explanation that the tree turned in the stand and then fell, but I don't really believe that because the stand turned over with the tree, the tree didn't fall out of the stand, so there's no way the tree would have turned and then fell.

The other major occurrence happened about a week after the tree incident. I like to think myself somewhat of a green thumb, so I have a lot of flowers and plants throughout the house. In the ghost's corner, one of the walls is actually a mantle. We have a fire place with a mantle that stretches the entire length of the wall. Our TV is up on the mantle and there are windows on either side of the TV. So up on the mantle I have a bunch of plants.

As my plants grew in number, I slowly ran out of places to put them in. I had never put a plant up in front of that window because we always had candles there or DVD cases; something was always on the shelf. But the shelf was empty at this time because the Christmas tree was semi-blocking it. I didn't want to hide a plant behind the Christmas tree, but I knew it would get a lot of sunlight, so I put it up on the mantle. I watered the plant and placed it up in front of the window. The next day when I came home from work, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Just the day before the plant had been green and alive and standing tall. I walked into the living room and the plant was completely yellow and all of the leaves hand drooped down and were touching the mantle shelf. I brought the plant down, gave it more water and put it on the other side of the TV with my other plant. I thought it was a goner for sure. 24 hours after moving the plant, I get home from work and its green and standing tall again. It was unbelievable!

We still hear a lot of unexplained noises, but these were the two main incidents that have occurred as of late. We still haven't received our house history yet, but talking with neighbors, we found out that an older couple lived in our house for about 35 years. They are both dead now, but no one knows if they died in the house, or if they simply lived here and then moved somewhere else. So I am more curious now than ever before to find out exactly who lived in the house and what happened to them!

Saving plants is probably a good sign that they're not out to get you....unless that's just what they want you to think.
