Richard Cooper who is played by the lovable Chris Rock is a highly successful investment banker who is happily married or so it seems to Brenda Cooper who is played by Gina Torres, a gorgeous elementary school teacher. Together, they have two beautiful kids. Along comes Nikki Tru played by the fabulous Kerry Washington. Nikki has come back into Richard's life, eight years into his sexless marriage and has made Richard into a bumbling nutcase, asking himself at every turn what if I do/what if I don't? Risking his long-standing job, Richard takes longer than usual lunch breaks and only until his boss puts him on probation and an ex boyfriend (of Nikki's) nearly beats him to death does poor Richard come to his senses, or so we hope. You think a man would get a clue. Not Richard Cooper. He still goes out and seeks this younger version of his wife. What makes him change? What makes him not cheat on his wife? He realizes what he would loose if he even touched a hair on Nikki's head (or other places) sexually. He would loose his daughter that he loves to play with when he gets home from work, he would loose his son who looks just like him and most definitely, he would loose the love of his life and mother of his children.
Now most men or should I say dads never make the smart decision or they make it too late to really matter. This movie, I Think I Love My Wife is sadly very realistic and even though it had a happy ending, it really did not break my view on marriage and not entering into that realm of life. Sure, I am like every young women and I do imagine myself getting married one day and not have my husband cheat on me. However, I also believe in fairy tales and want to kiss a frog who will turn into my prince, that does not mean it is going to happen or even happen the way you plan it too. My Lord, I could go on and on about this, but this article really is about the movie and not the subject matter. In essence, I would give this movie a rating of 5 stars because he didn't 'save a hoe' as Richard's co worker who is played by the one and only Steve Buscemi points out.
