I Will Not Burn Again…

A Poem of Love Lost..

Mike Lawson
The vessel that contains me
Has been knocked from its place,
This sanctuary of Love and Tenderness.
Carelessly pushed beyond the edge
Of the safe plane of the table,
I fall…

Helplessly, hopelessly tumbling,
I realize my fate…
I will not burn again.

I draw a sharp breath,
As I twist and turn through my decent!
A dreamer to the end,
I loose silent screams for redemption
As no hands move to save me,
I fall…

Forsaken, forgotten by all,
I spin to the slate floor below…
I will not burn again.

It seems like eternity,
This wait for the end.
And then in a cloud of painful peace,
It is over.

The globe of my Spirit,
That protected our flame
And kept it warm and bright,
Lies shattered on the cold floor of Reality.
Sharp shards scattered about as countless as the stars.

The warm oil of my Soul
Cools as it spreads itself in a jagged circle,
Over and between the cold stones of Life,
Staining them with all that is me as it soaks in,
Leaving the wick of Love to dry and die.

Painless Peace closes my eyes now,
And my ears gather no sound.
In this endless night of sleepless slumber,
I dream of all we were and could have been,
When the oils of our Souls were mixed
And fueled the flame so bright and hot.
My mind knows what my Heart will not believe.
Never again will I find what is lost,
What I pray to have once more.

I will not burn again.

Thanks for sending me notification of your poems here. I enjoyed reading them all. I tried to rate them, however, I couldn't get the damn thing to work like I wanted it too.
You are a master of words.
