I Won't Grow Up . .

National Poetry Month Daily Challenge: A List Poem

Khara E. House
I won't grow up...
Because dolls are still fun...
Because I'm not done believing...
Because I'm not done make-believing...
Because imaginary friends are still friends...
Because it takes imagination to waltz alone...
Because a safety blanket is always safe...
Because I've outgrown Hadassah, but she hasn't outgrown me...
Because I'm still the baby of the family, forever...
Because Frank still sings Young at Heart...
Because I see still angels in vagrant lights...
Because Super Grover is still my hero,
And I never though Snuffleupagus was just an imagining...
...So I won't grow up.

This is so very true and put into words makes it so very important to all of us to remember never to grow up. Great poem.

Thank you, Mary; your comment means a lot! Also, I meant to add a note to this poem: in line 8, "Hadassah" refers to a doll I've had since I was born. In fact, according to my parents, she's older than me! (Which adds a little more meaning, in hindsight, to the idea that she hasn't outgrown me!)

I have thoroughly enjoyed your submissions for Poetry Month...I would only hope Poetry Month could go on forever. Again, one of your pieces made tears come to my eyes. Powerful...it is true...you never grow up.
