Ibanez RG350MDX Guitar Review

Mike Harris
Despite the fact that they've recently been dabbling in some different types of genres, Ibanez remains known today for their prowess in making metal guitars. One of the best known is the RG series. They have all of the fast features and intense sound that metal musicians are desperate to have. The Ibanez RG350MDX is no exception. In fact, it takes the hard edge feel a little farther. Let's take a closer look to see exactly what Ibanez has done with the RG350MDX.

Features: The body of this guitar is made of basswood, an often used material for its light weight and good sustain. The body style, meanwhile, is much like a Fender Stratocaster except that it has much deeper and sharper cutaways. There is just one finish available with the RG350MDX, and that is midnight black. It also has a black painted headstock as an added feature. The neck is made of maple, and is bolted onto the body. The fretboard is maple, has twenty four jumbo frets, and upside down black sharktooth inlays. Also, the profile of the neck is Ibanez's classic Wizard II. The hardware, including the tuning heads, pickup covers, and bridge, is all black. Electronically, the RG350MDX has an Ibanez brand humbucker in the neck position, a single coil in the middle position, and another humbucker in the bridge position. Also, there are volume and tone control knobs with a five way selector switch.

Playability: The playability factor was taken into great consideration taken by designers of the Ibanez RG350MDX. The basswood that makes up the body is thin, lightweight, and comfortable. Also, the Wizard II neck design allows for excellent ease of fingering all the way up and down the neck. And, finally, the Edge III bridge design of the RG350MDX means you'll have the ability to take advantage of an excellent tremolo system.

Sound: As one could likely infer, the RG350MDX is great for what it is designed for. The humbucker / single coil / humbucker setup gives any player the opportunity to come up with a mean mix of sound and tone. With it, you can recreate anything within the rock genre from heavy metal to classic rock.

Overall: For those with a penchant for heavy distortion and excellent playability, the Ibanez RG350MDX is an excellent choice. It's durable, easy to play, and very mean sounding. You can find this guitar in music stores for around $400.
