Ibanez V70CE Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Mike Harris
This is one of Ibanez's lower end acoustic electric guitars. Its body design is that of the classic Dreadnought classic acoustic guitars, except it is a cutaway to allow access to higher areas on the fretboard. Let's take a look at it in a little more depth.

Features: The back of the neck and body are made of mohagony wood, and the top is made of spruce. This is a rare quality to find in lower end guitars, as their bodies are usually made from glossed plywood. Additionally, it has a set neck with a rosewood fretboard. These are both not-so-rare qualities in lower end guitars, but do not detract from much of anything. The headstock is well crafted and very attractive, as are the chrome tuners affixed to it. They do a fine job of keeping the guitar in tune as long as the strings are properly taken care of. Its electric feature is very useful, but be careful. You have to find a "just right" sweet spot between the volume knobs on your guitar and those on your amplifier to avoid a very loud echoing noise. This is due to the somewhat average pickups in the body of the guitar and the way the sound resonates.

Playability: Coming stock, the strings are a bit high. This is nothing that can't be fixed by filing down the bridge a bit though. I would also recommend buying light acoustic strings, because it can be pretty hard to bend notes with this guitar.

Overall: This is an excellent guitar for the player who is looking to enjoy playing music, not seriously make and produce it. It has a decent sound, though it could probably be a bit richer. Combined with a decent amplifier, this thing could definitely impress a small crowd. And best of all, it is a mid-range quality guitar at a beginner's price. It runs on average at about $200, which is a great deal for this fine instrument.
