You can find a T41 on eBay these days for around $150 dollars. That is not a bad price for a laptop that originally cost over $1600 dollars in 2003. For 2003, it was one of the most advanced and innovative laptops of its time and will do a lot of things todays computers will. The T41 has the classic Thinkpad style and has a very professional and business like feel to it. The touch pad is very responsive and it has a great keyboard like all the Thinkpads have. The T41 came in several configurations, some of them commanded a price of well over $3000. Imagine owning a $3000 dollar laptop today for only $150.
Computers lose their value quicker then anything else, with new technology constantly coming out. In just a year, a computer can loose over half its value. The Thinkpad still is a warrior, and was very sturdily built so there are many of them still in service today. Especially in places like office buildings and professional atmospheres as well as in people's homes. The T41 came with a 3-4 hour battery that like most laptop batteries is composed of Lithium Ion cells. The BIOS on Thinkpads are notoriously secure and are nearly impossible to break into. If you have information on this computer you don't want people to see, they most likely would end up just throwing the computer.
In conclusion, the IBM T41 Thinkpad is a great laptop you can find cheap these days on eBay for around $150 dollars. With a 1.6 GHZ Pentium M processor and upgradeable RAM and a 40 GB hard drive, the average computer user will have more then enough power. This is a great starter laptop for kids or a great first laptop for somebody that never had a laptop before. The T41 would make a great gift and if you can find one that has been used in an office. Laptops from office buildings or schools are usually in great condition.
