Ice Creams to Avoid

Jessica Rowe
Ice cream is a delicious treat that many people enjoy on hot days, as an after dinner dessert and with pies during the holidays. Treating yourself to a bowl of ice cream is just fine however, some of Americas favorites ice cream flavors are the worst ones for you.

Premium ice creams such as the famed Ben and Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs, have more butterfat in them than do store and traditional brands such as Breyers or a select. With the first few ingredients being milk, sugar and cream it is easy to see why ice cream should be consumed in small portions. When it comes to the flavor such as the caramel, peanut butter, nuts or the chunks of strawberry and chocolate, the brand really does not matter. Most of the flavors or some version of them, can be found in both the premium and the traditional brands, it just depends on if you want the ice cream that is better or worse for you.

Here are some of our favorites ice creams from our favorite brands, that are not so good for us. The nutritional facts for each flavor of ice cream are each based on a ½ cup serving.

Great flavored Ice Cream does not have to be top brand and does not have to be high in calories and fat. Sugar free and low fat ice creams are also available, they are better for us, taste great and come in many flavors and brands.
