Ice Hockey Conditioning: Four Tips for Negotiating a Price with a Gym

John Smith
Conditioning is an essential component of ice hockey training. A lot of players like to work out at a gym, but finding the right gym for you can be tricky. There tend to be lots of hidden fees and tricky negotiation tactics, you need to be prepared and have a set price in mind before attempting to get a gym membership. Oftentimes, you can negotiate the price for various services if you prepare ahead of time. Some things that can help you with this is to not buy into the sales technique of self esteem, don't budge on your decisions, taking the time to analyze the deal, and to look for reduced fees by offering referrals.

One thing that can help you negotiating a deal for a gym membership is to stand up to the salespeople and their crafty techniques. Oftentimes, they will try to insult you and your self-esteem in order to make you join a gym. However, don't buy into what they are saying, because they will often try to upsell you more expensive packages that are not really necessary for your training.

Another thing that can help you when you are negotiating a price for your gym membership is to hold firm to the price you're willing to pay. Usually gym will try to lure you in with cheap prices, but they will tack on additional fees for services such as lockers, towels, etc. Be prepared to walk away from the deal if the salesperson will not offer you a reasonable price. Additionally, if you've seen the deal previously somewhere, bring in the advertisement so they cannot try to get you for a higher rate.

Additionally, when joining a gym, you should always analyze the deal. There is no reason they have to sign an agreement on the first day that you go. After talking to somebody at the gym, you should go home and reevaluate the situation and make sure that the gym is really the right fit for you.

Finally, oftentimes gyms have referral programs, meaning that they will pay you a certain amount of money for every person that you get to join the gym. If you have friends or colleagues are also looking for a place to work out, try and refer them to the same gym and see how much money did you offer you off of your original price.
