Ice Road Truckers Season Two Review

Ice Road Truckers has completed its second season on The History Channel. In season one of the show, the ice road truckers transported materials to the local diamond mines. In season two, the drivers shift their focus to hauling natural gas drilling rigs. Our favorites Hugh, Rick, Drew, and Alex return for the second season, and several new truckers join the show, including veteran drivers and rookies.

The change in the materials that the truckers are hauling corresponds to a change in location. The show takes place on a new ice road, which seems more dangerous than the one in the first season. This road crosses the frozen Mackenzie River, and a frozen part of the Arctic Ocean. Yes, you heard me right, the Arctic Ocean.

In this season, personal drama escalates with Rick, who continues to damage his truck as a result of his reckless driving habits. He complains to anyone who will listen, and even talks to the company safety officer about the lack of respect that he is getting on the job. The tension escalates as Rick refuses to do what is asked of him, and he is eventually fired.

Alex, who is one of the best ice road trucker characters in my opinion, suffers continuous health problems. This culminates in him being flow to a hospital and being admitted with a blood clot in his lung. The other drivers are disheartened, and worry about the outcome on Alex's life and his family. Alex says that he cannot return for at least six months.

Season two of the series introduces more information on the locale. It examines the people who live in the Arctic as well as some of the local history. I feel that the series should have continued this line of the story and developed it further. It seemed as though we were presented with an introduction to the area when they talked about the region and its history, but the show did not follow through in looking at the people themselves who live in the area year- round. Their stories are probably very interesting as well, but maybe that will be a series coming soon.

Overall, season two of Ice Road truckers lived up to the expectations that we had after watching the first season. It was educational and entertaining. If you haven't watched any of the episodes yet, check out the History Channel for more information.
