Ice Spiker Colorz in Voodoo Blue Product Review

Julie James
The way I figure it, I'm only going to be on this big spinning rock for a short while, so I might as well have some fun. I like funky shoes, t-shirts with funny sayings, and every once in a great while, Ice Spiker Colorz in Voodoo Blue.

What is it?

This product is a colored styling glue for temporary use. The consistency is almost exactly like Elmer's glue and is generally meant for those looking for very strong hold from a hair styling product, such as those with spiked hair or side-swept bangs.

This styling glue comes in a 1.69 oz. inverted tube, and costs anywhere from around $8-$10 depending on where you purchase. I saw this one day at the salon after getting a haircut, and decided to give it a try.

Ingredients:

I cannot find a list of ingredients on the Joico.com website, but I will say the list of ingredients on the back of the bottle is formidable. I don't think I've ever seen so many ingredients in a hair product. To give you an idea, however, the makers of Ice Spiker Colorz in Voodoo Blue state that this product "protects and maintains style with vitamins, catalysts and Sea Kelp. Vinyl and Resin for lift and grip. Milk and honey fragrance."

How I use it:

This product works like any other strong-hold styling glue, except the glue is a very bright blue. To use, first make sure your hair is in good condition, otherwise this product may stain non-conditioned and/or brittle hair. I always use a leave-in conditioner which tends to act as a barrier between this product and my pale blonde hair.

Now, you may choose to use this product all over. (As a matter of fact, this would be a great product for those who don't want to use a colored dye that lasts through several shampoos). I don't use this product all over my hair as I prefer just a hint of color. To use, I open the cap, squeeze out a very small amount (about half the size of a dime), rub it between my fingers, then make sure I have the bulk of the product near my fingertips. I then either "tip" the ends of my sideswept bangs by slightly pinching the ends to place the color, repeating the process for even distribution, or I section off a couple of small strips of hair and run my fingers down the strip to evenly distribute the product. As this is a styling glue, you must make sure to remember that this has a very strong hold. I usually have to put some kind of product on my bangs to keep them swept to the side unless I want to be flipping my hair out of my eyes all day, and this product helps keep my bangs where I want them. If you want just a hint of color, place on damp hair. If you want bold color (like I do), place on towel-dried hair. As stated by the manufacturer, this product does indeed have a honey-like scent. This product shampoos right out for me.

I'm sure you've figured out by now, you must have a pretty healthy sense of whimsy to pull off having a bright blue bit of hair. This is something I only do once in a great while, but when I do, I always get compliments from both men and women of all age ranges. It's especially funny to get the compliments from senior citizens, but that happens quite often.

Ice Spiker Colorz comes in eight colors: Toxic Green, Voodoo Blue, Tar Black, Mosh Orange, Hazard Yellow, Shift Iridescent, Paranoia Red, and Whatever White. You can also find "metallix" versions that have a shimmer. To purchase, you can readily find this product online, or at most salons and beauty supply stores.

Be careful not to get this product on clothes as it may stain. Wash hands immediately after application.

Finally...

If you want to have a little (or a lot) of fun, this is a neat product. Pick your color, or mix them to create your own look. Most importantly, have fun!
