The Sacramento area has a rather peculiar culinary history. Lots of good restaurants offering a particular kind of food can be found in places that no one would expect. Rancho Cordova is no different in this way. Anyone who has lived in Rancho Cordova would have some ideas of what kind of food they would have in the area. One place that you don't expect to find in Rancho Cordova is a good sushi place but surprisingly Rancho Cordova has a very popular sushi bar called Ichi Maki.

Ichi Maki is located at 11291 Folsom Blvd. in Rancho Cordova California. Like most sushi bars Ichi Maki is a bit on the pricier side. Not only is it not a cheap meal but it is a little pricey for sushi even. One main problem in fact that I have with Ichi Maki is that if you want to substitute anything at all they are going to charge you even more and the price to substitute is fairly high often 2 or 3 dollars and they often wont tell you how much it will be. Sometimes they even will say if you want to substitute that it will be 2 or 3 dollars. Why they cant just say how much it is, does it depend on how well they like you?

While I might not like Ichi Maki's policy on substitutions Ichi Maki does have some things going for it that I do like. Obviously and most importantly they do have good food. Without good food there would be no reason to come after all. Ichi Maki has some unique sushi rolls that you will only find at Ichi Maki. It seems that many of the sushi bars in the Sacramento area do this. Ichi Maki does not take it to the extreme as some places like Blue Nami but they have a few house specialties that are worth giving a try. If you already have a sushi place you like to go in the area these specialities might make it worth coming to Ichi Maki just to try the house specials.

Ichi Maki is not the best sushi in the Sacramento area. There are at least a couple other places off hand I can think of that are better and even cheaper. Ichi Maki might not even be the best sushi bar in Rancho Cordova with Samurai Sushi being close by and very close in terms of food, price, and service. Because of the competition I would not recommend Ichi Maki over other sushi bars in the area but I would recommend giving it a chance. It might be nice to try a different sushi bar. If Ichi Maki is close to you that would be another reason to go. Some people might rave about Blue Nami or Samurai Sushi but it all comes down to being a matter of taste. Ich Maki might be the place you prefer. Its is pretty good but not my favorite but it certainly could end up being your favorite.
