I'd like You to Meet Nikki

As Popular as She is Fun

Donald Pennington
Nikki, AC Content Producer
Date of Interview: 03/02/2008
I think you're in for as good of a time as I found reading this writer's work.
Feel free to express your agreement in a comment.

DP: Who are you (by that tell me a little about yourself including personal stats like age, place of birth, etc...)

I'm a Texan "born and bred". I love Texas but wouldn't mind moving to another part of the world for a while. It's funny to meet people online who have never been to Texas, especially those from other countries, because they think everyone here wears a cowboy hat and rides horses!

DP: What initially drew you to AC? Or, How did you hear of AC?

I do not remember how I found out about AC initially. I stay here because of the outlet writing gives me, and because of the wonderful people I've met. Oh, and the extra $$ doesn't hurt either!

DP: What genre are you wanting to publish the most?

I don't have one particular genre. I just write about whatever pops into my head. I like to give my opinion though, which is probably why I write a lot of product reviews! I also like to help people, and have written some pieces about real life struggles.

DP: What are your favorite titles so far?(Don't be modest.)

The most recent one I've had a lot of fun with is the one about tainted lemon wedges http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/607487/are_lemon_wedges_making_you_sick.html

Next would have to be my pieces on the issue of cancer, from the viewpoint of a survivor. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/594049/how_to_talk_to_or_help_someone_battling.html and http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/559395/a_guide_on_how_to_act_around_and_what.html and http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/330895/how_to_react_to_a_friend_or_loved_ones.html and http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/334634/coping_with_hair_loss_during_chemotherapy.html . I wrote several others on this topic, but these are the four that mean the most to me. Hopefully the info will be useful to others too!

I've written a couple of environmental articles as well that I put a lot of thought into. My favorite one is about "green" weddings http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/438152/ecofriendly_green_weddings_are_a_hot.html.

DP: How has AC Treated you so far?(Support, that is)

Well .... let's just say that they folks who run this site must be very very busy! I've contacted them several times about different issues and have yet to get a response. I usually end up finding the answers on the forums or by contacting another CP.

DP: Where else have you been published?

Texas Dept. of Human Services newsletters, church bulletins, multiple community news groups. But my best work is published on the fridge at my mom's house from my grade school years .

DP: Please tell us about your favorite pet.

Oh that's an easy one! I wrote an article about my precious little Peanut Butter - the best chihuahua in the world! We had to have her put down and it broke my heart. I still miss her very badly. You can read Peanut's story here http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/342502/pet_euthanasia_saying_goodbye_to_a.html.

DP: What would you do with a million dollars?

A million doesn't go very far these days ... but it would certainly put a jump start to my sagging finances! Right after I finished chemo back in June of '07, my "kind hearted" boss fired me ... and I haven't been able to find a job since. No-one wanted to hire a woman without hair - and now I still have to go to the doctor A LOT for checkups and maintenance therapy - so it's hard to convince an employer to give me a chance. So for now, AC is putting beans and 'taters on the table and I'm waiting for my next golden opportunity to come along. So I'll take that million, thank you very much!

DP: In 100 words or more; where do you want to be when you're 50?'

I just want to live to be 50! That will suffice for now :-)

DP: What is you're favorite quote about writing?(and who get's the credit?)

I don't have a favorite quote about writing, but my favorite quote is "Courage does not always roar ... sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying - I will try again tomorrow".

DP: If you had any advice for newbies to get better exposure, what would you say?

I'm struggling with that myself, and have recently discovered the forums. They are a fantastic way to meet other CP's and learn about ways to promote your work and ways to improve your articles. I would also say that you need to learn how to take criticism if you truly want to be successful!
