I'd Rather Play with Witches and Gnomes Than Internet Trolls

An internet troll is a person with a psychological disorder. They have a driving need for controversy and a feeling of superiority over others. There is a rising trend of "trolling" for arguments on the net. They will look for the weak amongst you; just like the wolf circling the herd. Don't become troll fodder! It's easy to become defensive; which is what they are seeking. Take back your power and simply ignore their rantings. Do not engage, I repeat, do not engage the troll!

I have seen online communities crumble due to internet trolls taking over a board. If the board has a weak administrator and there is no ability to block the person, then your best avenue is to just ignore them. They will not concede in any argument. There is no reasoning with them. The troll will not leave if there is even one amongst you who engages them. You must stick together as a community, or the troll will be happy to park their butt on your living room couch indefinitely.

We had 3 trolls on a chat board I used to visit, who earned the title "The Three Amigos". One day, they were in total attack mode and our moderator "banned" them. Well, minutes later they are back with a new profile. If an admin cannot ban by IP address, the ban is worthless. Trolls who are technologically savvy can also get around the IP address ban. So again, my advice is DO NOT ENGAGE THE TROLL!

Yup. This is fun. I get hit by trolls more than I care to. but it's the price of greatness on the web.
