Ideal Gift Ideas for the Expectant Mom

Angela Corrice
Most people shop for mother's to be with only baby in mind. But pregnant women need some attention too. Here are some great gift ideas that are sure to make any expectant mother feel good about herself.

1.) A homemade bath and body works gift basket- Create a basket filled with refreshing bath accessories, such as bubble bath, lotion, an aloofa, bath salt, scented candles, body spray, cocoa butter and liquid body soap. You can find a variety of things to put into the basket, and all of these things come in several different scents which can be very soothing to a pregnant woman's sore body. My personal favorites are lavender and vanilla, both of which are very soothing and relaxing.

2.) A day of beauty- Give her a gift certificate to go get her hair and nails done. If you can, get some other friends or family members together and go with her. I'm sure this will be more fun if she has others to share it with. This will make her feel relaxed and beautiful, something that a lot of pregnant women don't often feel when they're expecting.

3.) A day of rest and relaxation- Even better than a day of beauty, a day at a spa is the ultimate in relaxation. Treat her to a day of facials and massages. She can also get her hair, nails and makeup done. Just make sure she stays away from the tanning beds and certain products that may be used, as these can be harmful to the baby.

4.) A care package for the hospital- Before you put this gift together for the mother to be, make sure she hasn't already got all of these things. If she doesn't, include a travel size package of tooth paste, a tooth brush, floss, travel size shampoo, conditioner and soap, deodorant, lotion, a magazine or book and a pair of slippers. You can include more things if you wish, but these are some basic things she'll probably need. Put everything into a really pretty gift bag or basket, or you could be even more creative by putting everything into a diaper bag, if she hasn't already got one, making this a double gift for both mother and baby.

5.) A romantic night away- Surprise her and her partner with an all-expense paid night at a fancy hotel, complete with a bottle of sparkling cider. You could also throw in the bath and body works set for the expectant couple to use together. If she and her mate have other children, offer to watch them for the night. The time away will probably be very welcome, and once the baby comes they probably won't get this opportunity again for a while, so your gift will be very appreciated.

These are just a few of many things that you could do to make an expectant mom feel special and loved. With all the excitement surrounding the approaching birth, a pregnant mother could start to feel overwhelmed or like all of the attention is going to the baby. While these things are expected and completely normal in pregnancy, they can be a lot for a pregnant mother to deal with. Giving her a gift that's just for her will make her feel as important and as loved as she deserves to be.

You are absolutely right Linda. Adopted parents are no less parents than biological parents, and even adopted mothers who are expecting a new child via adoption deserve to be treated as an expectant mother. After all, I can't imagine adopting is any less stressful than dealing with a pregnancy, probably even more so.

Great ideas. Don't forget these would also be great presents for the new adopted mother, too.

Great tips. And thanks for reminding people that the mom to be is still a person, too.

Great ideas! So many people get gifts for the new baby, but they forget all about the mom-to-be. She needs to be pampered too.
