There are many different ways to make a homemade Batman costume. You can make a cheap and easy costume from used costume pieces or spend more time and money to create a more elaborate and unique Batman costume. Whatever you choose, you're sure to make a stir with your Batman costume. Here are a few ideas for Batman costumes inspired by the Batman movies and television show.

Hot Batman Dark Knight Halloween Costume

To make a Batman Dark Knight costume, start with a black close-fitting shirt and pants with a fairly rough texture. Black long underwear would probably work best. The Batman Dark Knight costume is complex, so you'll need a high-resolution picture to refer to. Carefully measure and cut out corrugated cardboard or chipboard costume pieces for the armor, such as the greaves for the forearms, gauntlets for the hands, pauldrons or spaulders for the shoulders. Getting the cardboard wet will make it easier to mold. You can find a detailed tutorial for creating the Dark Knight muscle chest piece on the Instructibles.com website. Spray-paint the armor pieces with matte black paint before gluing them to the cloth suit. The greaves on the the forearm armor should have spikes shaped like shark fins. If you don't have time to make the muscle chest piece and armor, you may be able to find them on eBay or Craigslist. Purchase a Batman Dark Knight mask and cowl from a costume store, or purchase a regular Batman mask and spray-paint it matte black. You can make the utility belt by spray-painting a ladies' belt black and attaching a black Batman emblem to the front. Add a long matte black cape and black boots to finish the Dark Knight costume.

Cool Batman Begins Halloween Costume

The Batman Begins costume is almost identical to the Batman Dark Knight costume. The primary difference is that the belt is gold instead of black. You can find a detailed picture of the Batman Begins costume on the DarkHorizons.com movie website.

Sleek Batman Forever Halloween Costume

The Batman Forever costume was smoother and shinier than later Batman costumes. It has a sleek muscle chest with a batman emblem across the pectorals. You can try adapting the Batman Dark Knight muscle chest or purchasing second-hand costume pieces to use in the Batman Forever costume. You could also adapt a used black diving wetsuit to use as part of your costume to get the right texture and finish. When complete, the Batman Forever costume should have a satin finish, and the armor should work in seamlessly with the suit. The greaves for the forearms also should have single-piece shark fins running along the outer edge. Make satiny gauntlets out of long shiny black gloves and find shiny black boots. Fashion a shiny black belt with a gold Batman emblem on the front.

Campy Adam West Batman Halloween Costume

Get a long-sleeved light gray leotard and matching tights. If you prefer, you can purchase a long-sleeved light gray unitard. Put on some black briefs over the gray outfit. Get a black batman cowl-style mask. Then make a Batman utility belt. Fashion some rectangular pouches from cardboard, paint them yellow and attach them to a yellow elastic belt. Keep a picture of Adam West as Batman to use as a guide. Add shiny soft black boots and gloves. Cut out an ovular yellow piece of cloth, then cut out a black Batman emblem and attach it to the yellow oval. Adhere the Batman emblem to the chest of the leotard or unitard with fabric adhesive. Make a cape from shiny black cloth. Cut and sew the end of the cape so that it has semi-circular concave scallops to make it look like a bat's wing. Get a black bat-shaped toy or costume prop to use as a "batarang."
