Ideas for Decorating a Boy's Bedroom in a Bear Theme
Unique Ways to Decorate with Bears and Forest Decor
Boys that want a bedroom theme typically select a sports team, a well known character or something stereotypical such as camouflage patterns, race cars, trucks, space creatures or tools. They want gender specific subjects. Consider decorating in a bear theme instead. If the decorating accessories are not whimsical by design, the theme can grow with the child. It can be altered in subtle ways as the child becomes a teen, and it can be combined with another decorating theme.
Begin With Medium Forest Green Walls
Colors are a big part of the decorating scheme of a bedroom, and if a boy's room will be decorated in a bear theme, consider forest. When my cousin was about seven years old he wanted a bedroom with a bear theme, and his mom chose medium green for the walls. He wanted deep green, but it would have made the room look and feel smaller than it actually was. The space would have looked more like a cave than a bedroom. Parents must have the final say when choosing colors and decorating accessories for their kids.
Add a Unique Dimensional Mural
Deep green leaves can be stenciled around a corner to add to the style and theme of the bedroom. However, leaves alone do not make a tree. I came up with a creative dimensional mural for my cousin's bedroom, and it included a real branch. After stenciled leaves dried, I mounted a large branch in the corner over the stenciled leaves. I attached it to the wall with faux vines and small nails. I glued faux leaves to the branches to create a small tree. I helped my aunt create a mini forest that would accommodate the bears that would inhabit the bedroom.
Stamp Bear Prints on an Area Rug
Many people stamp animal prints on walls when decorating a boy's bedroom in an animal theme, but bears do not leave prints on walls. I convinced my aunt to stamp bear prints on an area rug instead. Her boy's bedroom had hardwood floors, and she chose a plush green rug to add warmth and color. We used life size bear stamps complete with claws to decorate the rug after practicing on paper bags. Always practice stamping on scrap materials first, no matter the design.
Decorate With a Large Cast Resin or Wooden Bear Statue
Outdoor statues are not solely for outdoor use. When decorating a boy's bedroom in a bear theme, shop online or in garden centers for bear decor. My aunt and I found a large cast resin statue at a variety store, and it was ideal for her boy's bedroom. It was not as large as a real black bear, but the details were beautiful. We placed it in a corner of her boy's bedroom, just beyond the stamped rug, but we were not quite finished.
Furniture, Bedding and Accessories
If the decorating budget allows for furniture updates, consider adding cabin style furnishings. The boy's bedroom that I helped decorate already had a heavy log-style bed. My aunt and I finished the bedroom by covering the bed with a reversible forest green comforter. We topped my cousin's pillow with fuzzy black throw pillows of various shapes, and we added two realistic bear cubs. The decorating scheme was extremely cute, and the finished bedroom was unique. Her son loved his new bedroom, and he kept the same subject for several years before updating it with an archery theme.
