Spice Up Your Pad with These Tips

Life inside of a bungalow can be cramped if the walls and decorations aren't suitable for the smaller spaces afforded to your small living space. In order to make life easier when decorating bungalows we have assembled these nifty ideas that will hopefully make your little piece of heaven feel more like home. These tips are also good for decorating cottages and other single story homes.

Rustic tips for Decorating Bungalows
The idea of living in a bungalow style house has its roots in old architecture. Take advantage of the rustic feel of the traditional bungalow by using decorations that highlight the true meaning of living in a bungalow. Exposed bricks, rusted metals, and antiqued furniture will be sure to ad that old time feel to your cottage and bungalow. Natural hard wood floors that have been aged lend to having neutral wall colors such as tans and gray. For a little added touch in decorating bungalows make sure and use a faux finish on your walls that highlight furniture found in your room.

Modern tips for Decorating Bungalows
Modern lines and modern furniture can be used when decorating bungalows in order to make a small room feel much larger. Modern furniture with solid straight lines tend to be smaller in scale than other types of furniture. Even if the furniture isn't as small as antique or aged furniture the modern furniture will appear small and thus open your room. Coffee tables, end tables, and TV stands should all be scaled proportionately. When using modern furniture it is ok to go a little more on the wild side with your colors. Deep reds tend to accent modern furniture well.

Minimalists tips for Decorating Bungalows
Small spaces feel cramped when large furniture is placed in the room. If you are into the minimalist feel it is important to de-clutter your entire space by removing anything that you don't want to look at or use. Furniture should be small and you should only use enough to seat those who will be the primary residents of the home. Remove coffee tables, un-needed end tables, and TV tables in order to remove any and all furniture from the room. An empty room gives the appearance of a clean, large room. Paint your walls stark white to open the rooms up even more.

Tips for Kitchens when Decorating Bungalows
The Kitchen area of a bungalow can be very difficult to decorate. When decorating the kitchen of any home special attention should be paid to the textures on the walls, floors, and cabinet tops. Textures on these 3 areas should be consistent with each other. If you are using ceramic tiles on the floor make sure that the tiles used on the counter top and back splashes are similar. Create a rustic feel in your kitchen by going country. Exposed pans, utensils, and dishes can help appeal to the nature of your cabin style kitchen. When decorating a kitchen in small spaces use dark colored appliances and light colored floors and counter tops to add a little contrast.

Whether you are redoing your home or dressing up your first purchase you need to put some thought into decorating bungalows and other small cottages and homes. The wrong furniture and paint colors can ruin the feel of the whole house.

I've always wanted a little bungalow or cabin in the mountains and when we retire (years from now!) we will most likely obtain that goal. I'll print this and file it in my "future dream" file. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
