Ideas for Decorating a Cottage Style Home Office

Create a Comfortable and Stylish Space for Work

Crystal Ray
A home office should be a comfortable space for performing tasks, and it should reflect personality and style. It does not have to be cold and rudimentary. On the contrary it can have warm and inviting country cottage style. It is the style I chose for my work area, and although I often work in the living room in front of the television, it is a welcoming and comfy space for writing articles, crafting and more. Use my ideas for decorating a home office with cottage style, and add decor that includes lovely furnishings, comfortable furniture and much, much more.

Consider Placing the Desk in the Center of the Room

Gene Stratton-Porter's house on Sylvan Lake in Rome City Indiana was my decorating inspiration when deciding where to place the desk in my home office. Gene Stratton-Porter was a famous author, and her desk was always centered in the room. I loved this decorating idea. I positioned my desk in the center of my home office over a pretty cottage-style area rug. The center of any room is usually wasted space, and placing a desk in the middle is a unique way to make the most of it while decorating.

Buy a Painted Cottage Style Bookcase with Glass Doors

With the invention of the Kindle and other e-book readers, books in their classic form are not nearly as popular, but some people will always prefer actual publications over electronic options. I have numerous books from interior design class, other hardback books, paperback books and much more. I wanted a bookcase when decorating and furnishing my home office, and since I chose cottage style, I decided on a painted freestanding bookshelf with beautiful glass doors. I use it to store books and hold items that enhance the decorating scheme.

Use a Wooden Filing Cabinet with Cottage Style

Metal filing cabinets are an eye-sore, especially in a home office with cottage style. Did you know that stylish painted wood filing cabinets are available? I chose a four-drawer wooden filing cabinet, and it matches my cottage style bookcase. It does not look at all like a filing cabinet. My home office does not look at like a workspace. With the aforementioned furnishings and decor with beautiful cottage style, it is an impressive and highly used part of my home.
