Ideas for Decorating a Family Room in a Wolf Theme

Furnishings, Decor and More

Decorating themes provide a fun way to add personal style to a home. A theme of choice allows the home design artist to choose eye catching decor and implement it in a stylish new way. A family room is a great place to start. Some subjects can be joined with others to create greater interest and visual appeal. For example, a wolf theme can be easily combined with southwestern theme, and they are two of my favorite subjects.

My aunt and uncle had a family room that was large, but it lacked style. The space was not decorated in a specific theme. It included a television, a loveseat and sofa, a fireplace and shelves that were loaded with games. Since my uncle loves wolves I suggested incorporating the subject into the decorating scheme. My aunt loved the idea, and we began coming up with new decor, a color scheme, accessories and more.

Consider Walls in a Rich Adobe Hue

The natural ruddy color of clay is absolutely gorgeous, and it is a great choice when decorating a family room in a wolf theme. Coat the walls in a rich adobe hue. They will look like natural warm terracotta, and they will become the backdrop for the family room decorating scheme. My aunt chose a lighter shade of clay, and it provided the inspiration I needed for the decorating scheme.

Use Slipcovers and Faux Wolf Fur Pillows and Throws

If your furnishings do not mesh well with southwestern style, consider fitted slipcovers. My aunt and uncle had comfortable furnishings, but they were covered with plaid upholstery that would not coordinate with the new decorating scheme let alone the theme of the family room. We chose gorgeous sky blue slipcovers. They fit the furnishings perfectly and looked fantastic against the natural light clay walls.

To accessorize the furnishings we chose faux wolf fur pillows and throws. They were ultra soft and comfy, and they added unique style to the sky blue loveseat and sofa. The furniture looked brand new, and the pillows and throw added a finishing touch. The family room already looked completely different, but we were far from finished.

Decorating with Wolf Wall Decor

I had my aunt search for wolf wall decor that caught her eye. I suggested finding a single eye catching work of wall art rather than filling the family room with dozens of knickknacks in a wolf theme. I do not believe in buying anything and everything, just because it matches a theme. She selected a beautiful wood carving that depicted a howling wolf. It was deep brown in color and highly detailed. It looked fantastic on the adobe colored wall above the sky blue sofa. I mounted two southwestern wall baskets next to it, and I filled them with faux desert plants.

Family Room Floor Decor

My aunt and uncle already had a life size chainsaw carving of a wolf, and we placed it next to the fireplace. It had been outside for a few weeks, but it still looked newly carved. It was ideal for decorating the family room, but they had never thought about bringing it indoors. They had paid $200 for the beautiful wolf carving. Not only would it add to the decorating theme and scheme of the family room, but it would also last forever indoors.

To finish decorating my aunt and uncle's family room in a southwestern wolf theme, I had her select a beautiful southwestern area rug to cover the center of the hardwood family room floor. She chose a rug with an American Indian pattern that included the same sky blue hue found in the sofa and the natural adobe color that bathed the walls. It was almost too pretty to place on the floor, but it became the basis for the seating area, and it completed the family room in a beautiful way.
