Most craft stores carries many different sizes of cross stitch even the larger ones ( 5x7,8x10). Some department stores still carry a few crafts, such as cross stitching. Even though smaller cross stitch have been found at some smaller chain stores. When purchasing the ones that are small(as you may know) there will be a frame with them. Some smaller cross stitch will not have frame. Instead they may have a tiny hanger. Cross stitch can be purchased on pillow cases too. This kind of cross stitch are most often purchased at a craft store.
When working with a cross stitch to be decorated they can be used as wall hangings with or without the picture frame that is with it. If choosing to use the frame with the finished cross stitch other tips and ideas can be used to improve the look.
This is a tip for a smaller cross stitch. It can be done no matter where you select to us it. In most cases there are a piece of plastic to cover the stitching, but if missing this is a good idea. Cut a piece of plastic (ziplock storage or small snack bag) to fit the frame using one piece to place over the finished produce. After placing it on top of the stitching in the frame take the bottom of the frame place down pushing until it snaps. Than place the hot glue around the bottom for better closure. Next, if you want to hang it on the wall, a strip of lace will need to be added by gluing one end to each side at top for a hook. Of course if preferred to use as a refrigerator or a file cabinet magnet glue a magnet on the back. Just be sure that the magnet is thick enough that it will hold. Now take the framed cross stitch, attaching lace with hot glued around the edge of the frame in front. Then just add a bow with ribbon (size will depend on the item) by adding it on the center bottom.
Another way to decorate with a finished cross stitch would be to laminate it without the frame or the one with the little hanger to protect it. After it is laminated then take the lace, ribbon and a bow to decorate it. Place the lace around the edge of the laminated cross stitch with a piece of ribbon at the top for a hook or hanger. Now attach with hot glue. Next add the bow and ribbon at the center bottom.
This tip is using the cross stitch with the hanger along with a plastic bag uncut. Place it against the corner inside the bag. Then with scissors cut about one quarter inch out away from the cloth on the top and one side. Now side the cross stitch out. Than join the open side together with a thin line of hot glue immediately pressing down. After it has dried position the cross stitch down into the opened end. If going to be a hanging item than place the ribbon hook just inside the top. Now repeat the top just as the side. Next use the same methods with the lace, ribbon and bow. This also may be used as a magnet.
Another tip is to buy a nice frame to place the cross stitch in just to sit on table or hang on a wall. The size of the cross stitch will be the deciding factor in which tip will be used.
