Ideas for the Environment Healthy: Recycling and Renewable Information

As concern grows about the impact humans make on the environment and Earth's future, the natural resources used every day are coming under increased public scrutiny. To make a personal commitment to conserving the natural resources of the environment, it is important to identify what natural resources you use on a daily basis and to make plans for using more renewable choices and to think seriously about recycling options. Understanding what options are available to recycle, what recycling means, and how to use more renewable natural resource will help you go about your daily life while minimizing your impact on the planet.

Renewable and Recycling Energy

The major natural resource humans use on this planet is non-renewable energy. Virtually everything we do in our lives requires some form of energy harnessed by man. Traditional methods of creating energy use non-renewable resources like fossil fuels, oil, coal, gas and nuclear energy. These methods use a natural resources from the Earth that will eventually run out. New methods of creating energy are becoming popular. The most commonly used renewable methods include wind, water and solar energy. Windmills and solar panels are currently the most readily available resources to the general public. Water energy has been used for years by damming up rivers and lakes and using the water pressure to create energy.

Renewable and Recycling Clothing

The clothing you wear has been made from a natural resource that is either renewable or non-renewable. Synthetic fibers, that are what much commercially produced clothing is made from, is made from non-renewable oil, or petroleum . Renewable clothing resources are widely available to conscientious shoppers. These include bamboo and hemp. Bamboo is becoming a common household name in textiles. Clothing companies are listening to consumer demand for renewable options for shoppers. Hemp and bamboo are easily renewed and are minimally taxing on the environment.

Renewable and Recycling Storage

Paper or plastic is the question heard millions of times a day at your local grocery stores. The common misconception is that paper bags are better on the environment. This is untrue. The production of paper bags uses quite a bit more non-renewable resources than the production of plastic bags. Both types of bags require non-renewable resources to produce, but paper uses almost 5 times more energy to make and takes 91% more energy to recycle. If you want to use a renewable resource for your daily shopping, consider reusable shopping bags made from bamboo or hemp. Even cotton bags are kinder on the environment.

Renewable and Recycling Foods What do we do day after day? We eat. We consume food multiple times a day, every day. Food is considered a renewable resource since it can be grown to replenish supplies. The issue remains with what types of food are better on the planet. Plant based foods are able to be renewed much faster than meat. Dairy products such as milk and eggs are quickly renewed. Animals grown for meat take longer to renew and tax the environment more than plants, but are renewable nonetheless. Non-renewable resources appear in food preparation, production and packaging, but the food itself is a renewable
