Are you looking for a new and unusual way to change up your home decor? Why not use food as to make artistic statement.
A fruit centerpiece will give your dining table a fresh look. They don't last long, but in the meantime, they will give your home a bright and cheerful demeanor. I recently received an edible bouquet as a gift, and it was beautiful -- but delicious. If you are looking to save some money on your edible centerpieces, try one of these ideas for decorating with fruit.
Fruit bowl candle holder
For this project, you can use apples, pineapple or any type of fruit (or vegetable) that will stand on one end. Cut the top off your fruit and carve out the insides with a knife or melon baller, leaving about a half inch of flesh all the way around. Brush lemon juice on the exposed flesh of apples to slow browning. Decorate your fruit with cranberries (attach using toothpicks) or cut small holes on the sides to let the candlelight shine through. Place an appropriately sized candle inside and use the candle holder as a table centerpiece. Throw the fruit away when it is no longer fresh.
Edible fruit bouquets
You will need a vase, or some type of container, and some floral foam to make an edible bouquet. Place the foam inside the vase, and poke bamboo skewers into the foam, using as many as you need to get a '˜full' effect; once you begin sliding the fruit onto the skewers, you will get a better sense of whether you need to add more or take some away. Then slide your fruit (grapes, chocolate-dipped strawberries, melon balls, heart-shaped pineapple slices, etc.) down each skewer until you reach the top, then move on to the next one. Use your bouquet as a party centerpiece, for a fun alternative to a fruit bowl.
Citrus table centerpiece
Find two clear vases or bowls that are about the same height, but have different diameters. Place the smaller bowl inside the larger one. There should be just enough room between the two containers that you can fill this area with orange, lemon or lime slices. Then fill the inner container with water and finish off your centerpiece with a bouquet of fresh flowers.
