Ideas for Men's Custom Birthday Gift Baskets

Jennifer Claerr
It isn't hard to come up with gift basket ideas for men. Most men love sports, beer and food, all of which make excellent birthday gifts. Making your own homemade gift basket will save you a lot of money and help you to customize your gift to the recipient. No matter what the man in your life loves most, you can use the following ideas to create a homemade birthday gift basket he will love.

Golf Basket

You can use a wicker basket for your golf gift basket. You can also use a small golf-bag shaped cooler or a metal bucket or basket for holding golf balls. Place some green plastic grass or shredded paper in the bottom. Add some golf accessories such as a golf towel, a ball cleaner, some score cards and some extra golf balls and tees. Then add some snacks such as gourmet cheese, mixed nuts, crackers, popcorn, cookies and golf-ball shaped chocolates.

Football Basket

To make a football gift basket for the sports fan in your life, start with a basket shaped like a football. Then add some football shaped gifts, such as a ceramic mug and serving bowl. Then add some snacks such as candies, tortilla chips, pretzels, trail mix, peanuts, salsa and queso. Add a bottle or two of premium beer to make the football gift basket complete.

Beer Basket

A beer gift basket is the perfect gift for a beer connoisseur. Before you start assembling it, make sure you know what type of beer he likes. For example, is he a domestic beer lover or does he prefer imported varieties? Does he enjoy microbrews or light beer? Get a single bottle of several different brands of beer and place them in a wicker basket or metal bucket. Add some of his favorite snacks, such as packages of potato chips, pretzels, nuts, dried fruit and cheese.

Cookie Basket

Homemade cookies are cheap and easy to make, yet are still one of the gifts men love most. Find out his favorite cookie recipe, then bake a batch of about 10 to 20 cookies. If you're not sure what cookies he loves best, bake some sugar cookies and decorate them with colored icing. You can place sayings like "Happy Birthday" on the cookies with icing. Or you could decorate the cookies on a theme. If he's a sports fan, bake cookies in the shape of footballs, soccer balls, baseballs and basketballs, then ice them accordingly. Wrap the cookies in food-safe plastic wrap before placing them in the basket.

Fun - although I cook and bake for my man all the time, but a cookie day might make a good gift anyway. :)
