Ideas and Optimism

A Political Poem

Louisa Burgess
"We will rebuild, we will recover, and...
we will emerge stronger than before,"
said the President. *

Hopeful words spoken
punctuated with dire facts
in the middle of unhopeful times
promises that can't be broken

Millions of homes lost for good
jobs and dreams are gone
comforting words won't do alone
a real promise of help could

Bailouts and congressional bills
community service for education
new energy sources and jobs
will they dent or topple our nation's ills

With no way of knowing exactly how
clouds of debt and darkness will lift
with partisan politics still the rule
heros and stories
timelines and promises
ideas and optimism
announcements and plans
will have to do for now

*The President actually said: "We will rebuild; we will recover; and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before." Poetic license taken.

I think he is swinging the pendulum too far into the opposite direction.

Good piece. Wonder what the future holds for us?

I don't know if he is good at words or if his staff is good at writing speeches. I know only a few people that have the gift of gab convincing others of what they say with a smile. I believe the next four years will be interesting.

I liked the speech, I really did, these were just my immediate thoughts.

good thoughts but it might also be a good exercise to determine what we truly need and don't need
