Ideas for Organizing Your Beads and Supplies: A Guide for Jewelry Makers

Ariana R. Cherry-Shearer
When a bead collector or jewelry maker begins purchasing or collecting all of their beads and supplies, it is great to have a variety of containers and other materials so that everything can stay organized. There are a number of ways that you can store your beads by finding objects around the house, or even purchasing the organizers that you can buy at your local retailer.

One way to organize your beads is to buy a little collectibles container. Most of them can be found in the crafts section at Wal-Mart next to the beads. There are about six slots that will allow you to store different colored beads, or different types. This is handy for on the road trips or if you only have a few beads that you want to organize together for a project.

Also, beads can be stores in these bead cases too. There are more slots to choose from which gives you more space to place a variety of beads. These can be used for bigger collections. This kind of case can also be purchased at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby.

One last place that you can use to store beads and supplies are cylinder gladwear containers. The lids go on tightly and they are small enough to store in a shoebox or drawer. Place your favorite colors or types into the container and label the kinds of beads that are being held in it. Gladware containers are affordable, and can be a basic supply kept around the house. This is a great way to save money without having to buy a lot of fancy storage containers.

These are just a few ideas of ways that you can keep all of your favorite beads and supplies in a safe place. By keeping them in some kind of container, it is easy to retrieve them when you need to work on a project, or if you just want to get them out and look at them. All of these containers are cost affordable, and great for any jewelry maker's budget who is just starting out. If you are looking for storage for all of your crafts and beading materials, just browse through your house or shop at your nearest retailer so that all of your beads and tools can be secured in one place together. For supplies or finished designs, try using little utility baskets. Most of them can be purchased for about a dollar at Dollar General Stores or Dollar Trees. This is perfect to store pliers, stringing material, and finished designs. Place your finished designs in a plastic jewelry bag, and then place them in the basket, so that they are within easy access to reach.

some good ideas here. I also design and make jewelry to sell. I use the containers with plastic drawers for nuts and bolts to store my findings etc. and plastic containers with compartments for the beads.

I found great storage solutions in the fishing section of walmart- it's 4 nice size adjustable compartment plastic containers, that come with a holder in which you can slide the containers into and then close the main clasp to secure all 4 boxes inside. it was really cheap - about $15. the great thing is it has a handle on top so you can tote your organized beads around with you easily......

Very nice job. I have wasted money on more expensive containers like the Container Store, but it's always the left over orange juice cans or other findings at Walmart that are my favorite. Thanks for sharing this one.
