Ideas for Packaging a CD ROM Drive

Jamie Brown
A CD ROM is the drive that allows you to load compact discs on your computer. If you're in the business of selling CD ROMs, whether they are used or brand new, you must make sure that your packaging is secure and professional. If at all possible, incorporate creative ideas into your CD ROM packages as well. Keep in mind that you must always package and ship CD ROMs in a box, never a padded envelope, because it can easily be damaged in transit.

Wording

On the packaging, you should make the name, model number, and features of the CD ROM clear so that there will be no confusion from your buyer. List all of the specifications related to the drive so that your buyer can verify that he has the correct equipment before opening the box. This will help you reduce returns of drives that have been installed and handled by a customer unnecessarily.

If at all possible, provide a short list of the popular computers that this CD ROM is compatible with on the CD ROM package.

Imagery

The image on your package does not have to be a plain picture of the CD ROM itself. People tend to respond better to images that describe how to do something, rather than just images of objects. Instead of a photo of the device, you can use a picture of someone using or inserting the device on your packaging. Additionally, provide a series of illustrations of how to install the product. This will be helpful to a customer who has never installed his own CD ROM and needs a general idea of how it is done.

Mini Laptop Packaging

If you are looking for a very creative way to package your CD ROMs, have boxes made in the shape of closed mini-laptop computers. Insert the device into the side of the packaging, the same way that it will be installed in the laptop. Instead of posting the computer name on the top of the "laptop" print your business name. Create a Velcro flap on the top that the customer can lift to get more information about the product, including instructions and specifications.
