Ideas for Painting Kids Rooms: Cloud Animals

A. Hermitt
If you care looking for a creative and unique design for your child's bedroom, you should try the Cloud Animals design. A cloud animal design will bring the fun activity of cloud watching and trying to decide what each cloud looks like into the bedroom. This is a great fantasy idea for the any child's bedroom, and it is very easy to accomplish.

To create this room design you will need:
Sky blue paint
White paint
A wall color of your choice (Dark blue, pink, neutral)
Large mylar plastic sheets to create shapes with,

An exacto knife, and a stencil brush. Begin by painting the lower portion of the wall, from about 4 1/2 feet and down the color of your choice. then paint above that line, including the ceiling the light blue color. You can choose to use a wallpaper border or simple chair rail to separate the two colors.

Next you need to find images of different animals. Look through picture books until you find animals that look easy to draw and recognize. The animals should be at a side profile to make it easy to recognize the animals shape when it is not painted in detail. Draw the animal onto the mylar sheets and cut out the image with the exacto knife. Make them as large as possible while remaining on the mylar sheet. Be sure to cut out only the center where the animal is, leaving the surrounding material, the stencil in tact.

Place your stencil on the wall or ceiling, and using the stencil brush, lightly dab on the white paint working to create a soft cloudy image in the shape of the animal. When you remove the stencil, it will look like a cloud in the sky in the shape of an animal. Continue until you are satisfied with the number of animal clouds on the wall and ceiling. You can use the each stencil more than once if you wish.

Your child will enjoy looking for cloud shapes in their sky for many years. An interesting take on this mural idea is to create a counting sheep design, by making all of the shapes sheep, putting them in a straight line across the room, and stenciling a number in black on each sheep.
