Ideas for Planning an Asian Fusion Wedding

J. Darling
An Asian fusion themed wedding is perfect for couples who want to celebrate their Chinese, Japanese, or other Asian heritage. Inspiration from color palettes and ideas typically associated with Asian culture would also be lovely for anyone who is drawn to the tranquility and beauty of Eastern culture. The ideas for this Asian fusion wedding will draw from influences from several different countries, so feel free to mix and match them any way you desire, as some people may lean more towards Japanese influences and others in the direction of China. You may want to base your ceremony around cherry blossoms and use a pink and brown color palette. Keep in mind that is only a wedding inspired by Asian influences, as the actual wedding customs vary greatly from traditional Western ceremonies.

Asian Inspired Wedding Invitations
You may want to choose designs that feature cherry blossoms, bamboo plants, or the characters that represent a key word, such as "love" on your inviations. Cherry blossoms would look great on white cardstock with black lettering and ribbon. You could also use brown cardstock with pink and white cherry blossoms and white lettering.

Asian Inspired Wedding Decorations
Decorate the wedding and/or the reception areas with pink or red circular paper lanterns, like these from Luna Bazaar. This site offers paper lanterns in various shades of pink and red: from fushia to poppy. Add strands of LED lights around banisters for soft lighting indoors or at an outdoor ceremony. If going with a cherry blossom theme, Luna Bazaar also has specialty cherry blossom string lights, accordion lanterns, rice paper votives, and garland that can be used to decorate the area. When possible, add water features such as small fountains or arrangements made from tall bamboo shoots in vases. Incorporate orchids, paper fans, paper cranes, and bamboo into accent decorations.

Set tables with linens in white with pink or black runners. Use colorful charger plates and napkins that coordinate with your table runner. Your centerpiece could be dramatic cherry blossoms and branches in clear vases with small Shoji inspried style lantern votive holders. You could also use floral centerpieces of orchids mixed with tropical greens and pinks in small square glass vases. Many companies offer fortune cookie shaped place card holders in gold, silver, or red which could be used to mark where guests are seated at the reception. If your color theme is more red than pink, use black tablecloths and red chargers and napkins. Instead of a cherry blossom centerpiece, hang miniature paper lanterns from a tabletop bare bonsai tree.
