Ideas for Planning a New Year's Eve Wedding

When you think of New Years Eve, what do you picture? What comes first to my mind is a picture of a group of people who are all well dressed, sipping champagne and singing along to songs being piped through loud speakers overhead. Everyone laughing, partying and enjoying himself or herself.

Since New Years Eve is a big event all across the world, it is one of the most expensive days to hold a wedding. To book some places, you are looking to spend approximately twice what it would cost on a normal day. But don't get discouraged! You can still have a wonderful New Years Eve wedding and not go broke doing it.

Location

When choosing a location think distant, but close. Think moderate sized and not over extravagant. The ritzier the place, the more it will cost. If budget is an issue, try finding a local spot like a museum or American Legion to host your wedding and reception at. Museums, Zoo's, Theaters and Malls often offer nice wedding packages. The further away from a big city you are, the less expensive the location will be.

Time

Most New Years Eve weddings are held at night. Having the wedding at night ensures that the guests can not only celebrate a wedding, but also ring in the New Year surrounded by family and friends, all while having fun. They are already in the partying mood, so the New Years Eve celebration ties in well with that.

Food

Since it is more of a party atmosphere- I would suggest having appetizers served at the reception. Have it be a cocktail themed reception, black tie or not is up to you. Make sure to supply enough appetizers for the guests, think on average maybe 5-10 per guest. If you are thinking more of a sit down dinner, think something heavy, but light like Filet Mignon with fresh vegetables and whipped potatoes. If you want something more fun- you can also try a taco bar for the guests.

Decorations

Anything sparkling, glitzy and glamorous would work. Some couples chose to have vases filled with colored rocks with glow sticks hidden within the rocks to give off a colorful look. Have sparkling silver sticks that are wedged in the centerpieces, and offer the guests blow horns and whistles to ring in the New Year. You can get a lot of New Years Eve party decorations from www.orientaltrading.com. They have the largest and least expensive collection that I have seen.

Attire

New Years eve is a classy holiday. Most people get very dressed up so I would consider this to be a more formal event. If you are going to have a black tie event, etiquette suggests you also serve a sit down meal.

No matter what time of the day you have the wedding, just remember to have fun. After all, two important events like that being held on the same day deserve a huge party!

Congratulations!
