Ideas for Religious Christmas Crafts

Bill Smith
As Christmas is getting near, those people who are religious hold that holiday very close to them and enjoy celebrating the many wonderful things that Christmas means. If you are looking for some crafts you can do this year to celebrate Christmas while also showing off a religious aspect, then here are some options for you.

If you are looking for a religious Christmas craft idea, you might think of making a bible you can hang on the tree by using an old macaroni box. This craft idea is very easy because you will only need an empty macaroni box, some black felt, gold ribbon and a white marker. To make your bible out of an empty box in which you can place on your Christmas tree or leave up on your fireplace mantle, you first need to cover the empty box with black felt. You can either hot glue the empty felt to the macaroni box at one side or you glue the felt to the top and bottom sides of the box. Once you have gotten the felt on the macaroni box you then need to measure the side of the box where you would put the gold ribbon to look like binding on the book. Measure the right amount of gold ribbon out and then place it on the macaroni box, using a hot glue gun to glue the gold ribbon to the sides of the macaroni box. Once you have done this you can then end the craft by writing bible on the outside of the felt with a white marker or gold glitter glue. You can decorate this box to look just like a bible and mimic your real bible and then leave it sitting out as a decoration or hang it on your tree. This would be a great craft to do with the children or to just show your religious faith during the holidays.

You can also show your religious spirit by making a Noah's Ark and this too can be a family craft that you and your children can do together. To make a Noah's Ark all you need is some paper plates, glue, brown construction paper, and some crayons. For this idea all you have to do is take the brown construction paper and cover the paper plates with the paper and glue it down, you can also choose to color the paper plates brown if you wish. You then need to cut the paper plate in half and glue one side on the other so you have a top and a bottom half, so it will look similar to a ship. You can use the Internet to get images of animals that might have been on Noah's Ark and print them. Once you get the paper plates cut you need to cut the animals out and glue them to the paper plates, using a nice variety of animals to represent the Ark. The last step is to then add some stick figures or cut outs of people who would be considered Noah and his family. This project, although a little more for the children is still a great craft idea for adults too because it conveys the importance of Noah and the Ark he built. You can also use this idea on other materials such as poster board or something sturdier, especially if you want to use this craft project as a learning and educational tool.

You can also make a cross by using cardboard egg carton containers, ribbon or string and glue. If you wish to paint the egg carton you can do that before you start anything else or you can leave it cardboard and decorate it at the end. First, what you need to do is cut the egg carton down the middle that way you have two sides with six egg holes each. Then you need to hold the longest strip to where it is vertical and the other strip is horizontal, and glue the two in place so you have a cross-like decoration. If you want to find some yarn, string, or ribbon to decorate around the cross you can. All you need to do for that is take the material and wrap it around each of the two sections of the cross and then proceed to glue the end of the string at the top of the cross. You can also decorate the cross with some stickers or maybe put an angel cut out in the middle of it. This would be a very good religious craft for anyone who likes crosses and enjoys the simple decorative nature of the cardboard egg carton.
