Ideas for a Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me Themed Party

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, was released in 1992 and is seen by some as both a prologue and epilogue to the television series Twin Peaks. The surreal series aired for two seasons from 1990-1991 and was set in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington. The series followed the lives of seemingly normal townspeople as FBI detectives worked to solve the murders of Teresa Banks and Laura Palmer. As the series progressed, more supernatural and dark undertones surrounding the characters began to emerge, and at the end of most episodes viewers were left with a "What the heck just happened?" feeling, a feeling that fans of David Lynch are all too familiar with. The movie wrapped up some, but not all, loose ends left at the end of the series and it wasn't well-received at the box office or the 1992 Cannes Film Festival, possibly because many people had difficulty following the storyline and the movie appealed mainly just to fans of the television show. However, like the series, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me has gained a cult following worldwide.

With theme parties growing in popularity, David Lynch fans might be looking for ideas for a Twin Peaks/Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me themed party. If you have access to a lodge or an area with blood red painted walls and black and white tiled floors, you're in luck. Otherwise, you can decorate your space with log cabin décor and things that Twin Peaks fans would recognize: owls, a map of Tibet, creepy white masks, a chalkboard with cave drawings, blue roses, miniature Douglas fir trees, and logs. Leave a blank diary or a hand-held recorder for guests to write in and leave voice entries on. In addition to any typical appetizers you serve, make sure to have plenty of cherry pie, doughnuts, and bottomless cups of coffee on hand. Instead of holding a "Miss Twin Peaks" contest, ask each guest to dress up as a character from the movie and give out a prize for the best costume. Prior to the party, make up questions for a Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me trivia game. Attendees not wishing to partake in the trivia can mingle and enjoy that "damned fine coffee" during a screening of the movie. The soundtrack to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me provides hauntingly good background music for conversation as well with tracks from composer Angelo Badalamenti.
