One of the advantages of having a dress made for you is that you can save money by purchasing the material yourself (the material for my wedding dress was on sale when I bought it), and hiring someone to do it. If you know someone who sews very well, the dress might be part of your wedding gift, furthering cutting costs (although you should pay something - wedding dresses are more expensive to sew).
Here are some ideas for wedding dresses that look good, but that are also unique. You can find patterns for them or even order them online. Just make sure they come in the color you want.
1.Middle Eastern dress styles. Traditional Middle Eastern dress for women is not all hijab and hiding. Many of the traditional wedding dresses have flowing sleeves and are quite beautiful. And the material you choose makes a great deal of difference. Middle Eastern styles allow you to choose different materials to give rich texture and variance to your wedding dress.
2.Chinese style wedding dresses. These dresses are often very modest, and no one every looks frumpy in a sophisticated and sleek Chinese dress. The traditional Chinese wedding dress is quite ornate and voluminous, but the dresses that we are more acquainted with - the sleek dresses that elongate the body and have the high neck, are elegant and make a lovely and unique dress. To really stand out, make the dress red. This is the traditional color of a Chinese wedding dress (signifying happiness).
3.Indian sari. The Indian sari is becoming a very fashionable statement. But it is still unique enough that your wedding dress will be different. A simple sheath dress accented by a sari will look sophisticated, elegant, and unique. Line the edges of the sari with gold or silver embroidery for a richer look.
4.Something a little less exotic. If you are uncomfortable wearing the clothing of another culture, choosing the sari is actually a good idea. However, more Western styles can also be unique. A square neck dress, made as an A-line with long sleeves flared at the end are very Middle Ages. They look unique, but are also a little more familiar and less exotic.
