Fibromyalgia is a debilitating health complication that affects the total body of the person who suffers from the condition. Often, in the early stages of development, a person with fibromyalgia will not even realize they have the condition until the symptoms are quite progressive. But, with chronic muscle spasms, this diagnosis should be considered as part of your clinical evaluation by your doctor.
While there are no firm tests that can confirm the presence of fibromyalgia, there are many tests that can be run to rule out other related or similar health conditions. Once other conditions are ruled out, your doctor will typically apply a fibromyalgia complication when you are suffering from joint and muscle pain, chronic muscle spasms, and fatigue with depression. In some fibromyalgia patients, especially in those with long term complications that are not treated effectively, bladder spasms may also develop.
To treat the fibromyalgia muscle spasms, you can expect that your doctor will first recommend a change in diet to include more protein and, typically, will provide a home exercise program. In addition, you may also need to take muscle relaxers in the evenings when you sleep as this will be the time that your muscles are most likely to experience cramping. To ensure your health is protected, use of anti-depressant medications and physical therapy may also be used.
While not all muscle spasms are associated with fibromyalgia, many complications with chronic spasms can be related in some way. If you find that there is no organic basis for your muscle spasm complications, be sure to ask your doctor about testing and treatment for fibromyalgia as you may find that your muscle spasms are easily resolved with this treatment plan.
