The I-Dog Dance comes in black and white. I chose the white one because I preferred the way it looked when the colored lights lit up. The I-Dog Dance works in two different ways. You can either plug it into a music player (such as your iPod) and it will play the music through built-in speaker or you can put the I-Dog near a speaker and press his nose to get him to dance. If you want him to play music from your music player, you will need to purchase speakers which are sold separately.
I really like that he does different dance moves based on the kind of music that is playing. It can move in many different ways and even stand up on his two back legs. There are eight different commands that you can give the I-Dog such as dance and stay and the I-Dog will do what you tell it.
Even when there is no music, the dog will bark, make movements, and light up if someone is playing with it. It will even grow at you if you touch its nose or tail. It is very cute to watch.
I believe this toy is appropriate for children ages 3 and up. It is plastic and pieces can be broken off so keep an eye on any little ones who might be playing with it. However, I have found it to be very durable as my three year old often accidentally drops it even though we are trying to teach her to be gentle with it.
The product is smaller than it appears online. It is about 6 inches tall and weighs about a pound.
While the I-Dog is fun to play with, I can see it soon being put in a closet and forgotten about. This product would probably only entertain an older child for a few minutes after it has been taken out of the box as it does only have a limited number of things it can do. However, I feel like it was a good present for my young child because it combined two things she is interested in: dogs and music.
