Idol Adam Lambert Wins the Night--by Far

Jessica Schneider
The thing I find so strange about American Idol is that they manage to stretch ten singers into a two hour show by having one contestant sing per commercial.

Yet by the end they were running out of time. (Maybe I shouldn't be surprised).

As in past seasons, we had Motown Night, which brought out the worst in some and the best in others.

Matt kicked off the night with a great start, doing an excellent version of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." While he seems like a nice guy, and his persona comes across a bit dull, he's actually quite a good singer and piano player, and arguably has the most amount of musical talent of the bunch. It's odd that I say this, since it has taken me a while to notice him.

Kris' "How Sweet it Is" was merely solid, but forgettable, and he could be going home. Likewise, Scott's performance of "You Can't Hurry Love" wasn't very good. Not terrible, but he just doesn't have the vocal ability to carry that song. But I think he's got a strong enough fan base to stick around.

Anoop covered a Smokey song "Ooh Baby Baby" and he did a pretty good job, though his performance last week was stronger. "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" by Michael Sarver wasn't great, but I didn't think it was as bad as the judges said. It was a hell of a lot better than the train wreck I am getting to.

Lil Rounds did a passable job of "Heatwave" though I still don't think she's that great a singer, despite the judges' praise. She is good solid but not very distinct. Had I closed my eyes I would not have been able to tell who was singing it. I just don't think she has it.

Danny did a very good job with "Get Ready" though the song felt a bit rushed. He definitely has the voice, but I don't think he has the understanding of his voice the way Adam does.

And speaking of which, Adam was just awesome with his rendition of Smokey's "Tracks of My Tears." He's shown he can hit those high notes, he can take pretty much any song and make it his own, and he sounds great doing it. Not to mention he looked damn good.

Allison closed the show with "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" and she did an excellent job. One of the best female singers ever in any of the competitions.

Now, having said all that, Megan Joy was once again, terrible. She butchered the song "For Once In My Life" and has shown she has no business being there. Her singing sounds so affected, forced and fake. It's just ridiculous.

Once again, she is the primary contender for Vote For the Worst.

My predictions for Bottom Three:

1) Megan

2) Kris

3) Michael

Please get Megan off the show, my ears can't take it.

I definitely think Scott is talented--and more than just "the blind guy"--though he is more of a musician/pianist than great singer. Matt has a better voice overall and he "seems" a bit better at performing, though of course he doesn't have blindness to deal with. I actually "like" Scott better--Matt is kind of forgettable when it comes to personality, though I sort of thought the same thing about David Cook last year and look what happened. The best way of measuring the two would be to see who writes better songs/compositions. And I wouldn't even give Megan pageant singer credit. She's just horrible!

I keep calling Megan a pageant singer. Can you see it? And you are dead on in all of your statements. Except one. Matt Giraud is extremely talented, but as for having the most musical talent, you might want to take a look at Scott MacIntyre's background. I might go so far as to say they could be comparable, but Scott has a boatload of awards.
