Idol Judges Save Michael Lynche on Wednesday Night's Results Show

Ryan Seacrest promised shocking results on Wednesday's show and loyal Idol viewers knew that it meant one of the two frontrunners, Michael Lynche or Crystal Bowersox, were involved. In typical Idol fashion the results were dragged out for an hour. Crystal Bowersox, Katie Stevens and Siobhan Magnus were asked to stand at center stage and then told to sit down since they were safe. The three remaining female contestants will get another chance to perform next week.

Kara DioGuardi's protégé, Jason Derulo took the stage and performed his two new hits, In My Head and What You Say. Next up, Season 7 second place finalist David Archuletta performed John Lennon's Imagine. And, it was back to the results. The remaining six guys were asked to stand at opposite ends of the stage. On one side stood Lee DeWyze, Casey James and Tim Urban. On the other side stood, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly and Andrew Garcia. One group was safe and the other group was the bottom three. Lee, Casey and Tim were asked to sit down which meant Michael, Aaron and Andrew were the bottom three. And, Aaron was immediately sent to safety.

As Michael and Andrew patiently awaited their fate, Rhianna performed her new song Rock Star 101. And, finally the shocking results promised at the start of the show. Andrew Garcia was safe and Michael was in jeopardy of going home. In an attempt to be saved, Michael performed a heartfelt version of This Woman's Work and judges decided to use their one save of the season on him. His performance tonight was far better than his over the top rendition of the Beatles' classic hit Eleanor Rigby. This means two contestants will be going home next Wednesday. The guest mentor next week is Adam Lambert. It is going to be an interesting week to say the least.
