'Idol' Top 13 Results Night: Ashthon Goes Home, Casey is M.I.A, Lambert Sings Acoustic

The worst part about Thursday's "American Idol" result show is that we learned that Casey Abrams was in the hospital. Casey has been a fan favorite since day one, so the news that he was sick and in the hospital overshadowed the rest of the night's events.

Ashthon leaving was almost a relief after hearing about Casey. For those who are in the top 13, they have to sing for their lives. Which Ashton thought she did after she was told by Seacrest that she was the one leaving the show? Why would the judges give away their Get Out Of Jail Free card on week one? Especially when she sang as badly (sorry) as she did the first time. The real heartbreak is that Casey was in the hospital and couldn't be on that stage to hear the news he was safe or say goodbye to Ashthon.

As soon as the top 13 made their way to the stage, we heard, "You'll notice that Casey is missing from the group. He is unfortunately sick and in the hospital right now," from Ryan Seacrest. Moans erupted as people were saddened that he wasn't there and that he was sick.

As the night moved on, Seacrest surprised everyone as he said: "You are all safe...EXCEPT for you, Karen!" Now that was just being cruel. Come on, Ryan, show the girls some compassion. Yet, Ryan is Ryan and never ceases to amaze us with his different approaches to telling the finalists if they are safe or in danger of going home. Last night, he didn't stop with crazy announcements. He went on to dupe both ladies by saying, "Ashthon, it's you, you're in the bottom three...and Haley, so are you!"

Sad, Seacrest, even for you. Haley was as surprised as Karen was. For Ashthon, she already knew she was going to be in the bottom. At least she should have if she heard what we heard. Isn't that difficult? The finalists listen to a play back of their performance and hear how they sing. Then they have to endure the torture of Results Night as they wait to hear their fate. Ah, this is reality television!

Other than hearing about Casey in the hospital, the least favorite parts of the night were Diddy's Dirty Money featuring songstress Skylar Grey - Her piano performance was the best part of the song! Then, of course, we had Adam Lambert sing an acoustic rendition of his Trevor Project charity single "Aftermath." He sang well if you like Lambert. As I'm not a fan, I listened to the first couple notes and fast forwarded through his "Idol" performance. Sorry, just not a fan.

In my recap of Wednesday's show, I said these four singers were in danger of going home: Haley Reinhard, Paul McDonald, Ashthon Jones or Karen Rodriguez. It turns out the bottom three were: Karen Rodriguez, Haley Reinhard and Ashthon Jones, with Jones going home.
