If Your Community Has a High Percentage of Poverty, Open a Food Bank in Your Area

Casey C
There is a high percentage of poverty in the world today and you may be able to help reduce the percentage. In other countries and the United States children die every day due to starvation and being malnourished. This should not be happening in America. These children should not be starving. Going to school hungry and wondering when your next meal will come is unthinkable. If you do not have a food bank in your area, it would be a good time for you to pull together with friends and family and make this happen.

If you get help from your community, family, and friends, this will be easier than you think to start. Even if at first this is something you have to start in your own home, it can happen. By getting together with family and friends and starting a food bank, you can lesson the percentage of poverty in your community.

After you have family and friends to help you, you can start visiting your local grocery stores. You can let them know what you are doing and if they may be able to donate food for people in your area that are living in poverty. Send out flyers within your community to let people know what you are doing. You may even get your local news channel to let people in your community know what you would like to do to reduce the poverty in your area. Let them know the drop off points. Get together with your family, friends, and people from your neighborhood and see who can make a small donation to help you get this started. If you don't have enough money to rent a spot for your food bank, start it at your home. Let people know you cannot accept frozen foods. These foods will have to consist of can goods, fruits, dry beans, boxed items such as cereal, Mac-cheese, noodles, Bisquick, jiffy foods, vegetables, canned meats, any foods that are non-perishable.

In order to find the poverty areas in your community, you may start by calling your local churches and DFCS (Department of Family and Children Services). If people from their community would all pitch in and lend a hand we could save a lot of children from starving and being malnourished. This could give more hope for children to grow up healthy and become successful in life. The children are our future, so we need to take care of the children no matter what it takes. Stop poverty today by opening your own food bank in your community.
