If I Could Do it Again

NorthBound
Do you ever look back on life and wish you had done something different? I think we may all have had this feeling at one time or another. Would doing something different have changed your whole life or would it have made things worse?

As far as we know, we only get one roll around the block while here on Earth so making the most of every single day is pretty important. When we are young, we really don't think about this but once we grow up, we seem to begin to understand that time really is precious and we should make sure we do the most with our time.

How would life be if we had known this when we were young? Just think how easy things could be if we had all started out early in life doing all of the right things and getting all of our ducks in a row so when we grew older, we would be set for life. If some of you are saying that it would be boring to do everything right, I agree.

We may only live once but every single move we make from birth to the grave is special. While we all want to do the right thing, not many of us have taken a perfect path to where we are today. For those of you who have, I salute you for your amazing self control. But for the rest of us, we have some memories of times gone by that could never be replaced by always doing the right thing.

Some of my best memories are those times when my friends and I would just hang out drinking beer and acting like morons. While this activity was not helping any of us to gain fame, fortune or respect, it was a time when we were all just having a good time and we didn't worry about all of the "adult" things that we would soon be doing. Once we grew up a little, we all parted ways because of work, people moving to new areas far away or other reasons. Those days are gone forever but those days are in each of our minds and we probably all remember the fun we had.

So many of us worry about working and taking care of kids these days that we never take the time to stop and make a memory. We work all day, if you have kids you come home and spend time with them and then you go to sleep only to start the next day doing the exact same thing again. To me this is a pretty boring life. We all need to slow down and begin to understand that there is more to life than work and sleep. While I understand that we must all make money to survive, are we really living by doing this?

Of course I am not saying that people should quit their jobs and become roving hobos; I am saying that we need to set more time aside for our lives. We need to tend to our memories and be with friends and family more so we can say that we have lived full lives. We need to take a chance on something that we have feared doing because if we don't, we will regret the chances we didn't take. By doing these things we can get back a small amount of our own time and enjoy the small amount of time we have left here.

So get out there and take a chance or two, go somewhere that you have never been before, call an old friend that you haven't talked to in twenty years and just say hi. Have an ounce more of fun and it will do wonders for your mind.
