If Fathers Were Like Penguins

Dads Should Take Their Cue from Male Penguins

Timothy Scheiman
Have you watched those nature shows that highlight the life of penguins. Male penguins share in the child rearing. While momma penguin is hunting for food the father penguin is sitting on the egg. What if we could translate this nurturing to humans? This is what would happen.

Mom would go to work

Mom would be going to work and dad would stay home taking care of the kids. Each parent would take their turn working and staying home with the kids. The dad would get a better idea what the mother has to do during the day.

Dad would do the household chores

Dad would be doing the household chores and giving mom a break now and than. Wouldn't hurt the dad a bit to do the dishes on occasion or scour the oven. Momma penguin would be gone months at a time gathering enough food for the family. That means dad would have to pick up the slack.

Dad would have raise the kids

Dad would have to run the kids to their ballet and karate practice. Men would pull out their hair having to car pool a bunch of kids to school and back. When they are sick sit with them and wipe their runny noses. Plus dad would have to keep the house clean for mom when she came home. The dad would be the one doing part-time work from home projects to help make make friends meet. Can you imagine dad being a den mother for a bunch of girl scouts.

Dad would have to take care of mom's needs

Imagine dad too tired to take care of mothers needs when she comes home. She worked all day and wants to shower, eat, and have her husband please her. When he goes to bed and she wants sex and he is dead tired from the kids and all the chores. Would she be willing to let him off the hook? You may laugh but this is how it would be if dad had to change places with mom.

Dad has to get the kids ready for bed

Before he can relax with mom he has to put the kids to bed. That means to see that they get baths and brush their teeth. He may even have to sit with them until they fall asleep. Once thats done he gets up tomorrow to start it all over again.

On Fathers Day should remember how lucky he is to have a wife that raises his kids and does all that needs to be done around the house. If dads had to do what mom does on a regular basis than he would really deserve those set of gulf clubs he will get in June.

Every Dad should have to go through a week or so of this, just to get an appreciation for what stay-at-home-Moms do.
