If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: Story Line
Written by Laura Joffe Numeroff and published in 1985, this book is a quick read with a short amount of text on each page. Some pages leave you with a cliff-hanger, requiring that you turn the page to discover what comes next. The text is an easy-to-read font size, the sentence structure and grammar are also easy reading, and there's more picture than print on any given page. What's more, the story line is very endearing. A young boy and his pet mouse are the characters, and the whole story revolves around what happens when the boy gives his mouse a cookie.
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: Illustrations
Illustrated by Felicia Bond, the graphics in this book are fun, colorful, charming, cartoon-like, full of facial expressions and comical close-ups, and they're contrasted with plenty of white space for visual appeal. You'll find the illustrations simple; but each drawing comes with enough detail, shading, and punch to really capture a kid's interest.
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: Recommendations
I highly recommend reading this book. It's a keeper and a classic--one of my most favorite pieces of children's literature. In fact, it's so memorable, you'll remember reading it for years to come. You can always check the book out from your local library, but why not get your own copy? You're going to want to read it more than once.
